Tree of Knowledge

First :: :: :: Latest

Genesis 3:4-5 The serpent said…  “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

In the Bible, there were two “special” trees—the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and the tree of life.  God didn’t initially forbid Adam from eating the tree of life though—just the tree of knowledge (evidently, it was ok for Adam to live forever as long as he stayed dumb). But according to the Bible, after Adam ate from the tree of knowledge God said, “Oh no, now Adam’s as smart as us, we have to make sure he doesn’t also eat from the tree of life and live forever!” So, why was God so worried about Adam becoming as smart as him and living forever too?  Was he afraid that if humans became like Him, we’d kick his ass?

Of course, as you can see from Holy Bibble, that’s not how things really went down.  There were no magic trees—this is  just another story that nut, Moses, mixed up. Luckily for you, Holy Bibble is here to give you the Truth. Otherwise, you might be thinking that God was some insecure jerk!

    bahahahaha! Hilarious!
    Evidently, though, the tree’s magical power of giving knowledge isn’t quite working on the thick-skulled Adam :P
    Great work guys

    Moses wasn’t very logical. Why would God expect Adam to know that eating the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil was evil, if he didn’t know the difference between good and evil before he ate the fruit?

    Blows my mind, man.

    That’s the point, Andrew. Anyone can expect you to follow the rules when you know what right and wrong are. That’s why everyone expects adults to be good, but kids don’t have the capacity to be good or evil, they’re just meant to do what their dad says.. or they get the hose again.

    It shouldn’t have been the apple, it should have been a ding dong or something. You are SUPPOSE to have an apple a day.

    @JustACrow: Fun fact: the Fruit of Knowledge being an apple is a fairly recent invention. The original has it as just some “fruit”, and some early interpretations made it a fig…

    Actually there’s an argument in the Talmud about what the fruit was. One opinion even said that it was wheat.

    Actually, it wasn’t a tree at all; it was a snack stand, and it wasn’t apples; it was Jujubes.

    Your comic is neat — I used to read it all the of the time and I am glad it is still here. If I may ask, where is your button for voting on TopWebComics.com?

    We don’t do voting anymore. Thanks for voting when you did, though. :)

    For what it is worth, Lucas, I voted last night and this morning, and you now have thirty-seven votes for the month. I know that a lot of creators feel that their placement on topwebcomics.com and other boards depends on how many ‘vote incentives’ they create, and they feel that creating vote incentives is a waste of time and energy; but I will also say that topwebcomics.com is is how I keep track of my webcomics — one way or the other, I simply don’t have time in the week to track my funny pages down by other means. So, I will continue to find your strip through topwebcomics.com, and I will continue to vote for your strip through the board on my way there. I hope you don’t mind…

    Fellows, I love your artwork. Having said that, I do have a minor suggestion. The light brown of Adam’s body and the off green of the fields are both earth tones and they tend to blur together. This kind of blurring often appears in your work. Why not put a thin line between the the two shapes — perhaps one pixel of white, just to make the picture more clear?
